Getting Educated Means "Acting White"…

In the past few days I have been ashamed of what I have heard some people saying about a black person (African Americans) that seeks higher education. I have listened to a few radio stations over the past few days and the subject of black people seeking higher education has come up and I am sad to say that their have been individuals calling in saying that black people who attend college and speak properly are trying to “act white”. What in the world is this mess???? I can’t believe that ANYONE would speak those words out of their mouth. So are they trying to say that black people are suppose to be ignorant? Having and/or seeking intelligence is not a color issue it is simply a matter of being the best you that you can be to make the best life that you can. Meditate on these words: “Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness, that frightens us most. We ask ourselves, ‘Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, and famous?’ Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that people won’t feel insecure around you. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It’s not just in some of us; it’s in all of us. And when we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others”.
~Used by Nelson Mandela in his 1994 inaugural speech
