Food For Thought

I was shocked, confused, bewildered
As I entered Heaven’s door,
Not by the beauty of it all,
Nor the lights or its decor..

But it was the folks in Heaven
Who made me sputter and gasp–
The thieves, the liars, the sinners,
The alcoholics and the trash.

There stood the kid from seventh grade
Who swiped my lunch money twice.
Next to him was my old neighbor
Who never said anything nice.

Herb, who I always thought
Was rotting away in hell,
Was sitting pretty on cloud nine,
Looking incredibly well.

I nudged GOD , ‘What’s the deal?
I would love to hear Your take.
How’d all these sinners get up here?
God must’ve made a mistake.

‘And why’s everyone so quiet,
So somber – give me a clue.’
‘Hush, child,’ He said, ‘they’re all in shock.
No one thought they’d be seeing you.’

Remember…Just going to church doesn’t make you a Christian any more than standing in your garage makes you a mechanic.

Every saint has a PAST… Every sinner has a FUTURE

Is Your Window CLean?

A young couple moves into a new neighborhood. The next morning while they are eating breakfast, the young woman sees her neighbor hanging the wash outside.

“That laundry is not very clean”, she said. “She doesn’t know how to wash correctly.
Perhaps she needs better laundry soap.”

Her husband looked on, but remained silent.

Every time her neighbor would hang her wash to dry, the young woman would make the same comments.

About one month later, the woman was surprised to see a nice clean wash on the line and said to her husband: “Look, she has learned how to wash correctly. I wonder who taught her.”

The husband said, “I got up early this morning and cleaned our windows.”

And so it is with life. What we see when watching others depends on the purity of the window through which we look.

There are no Instant Habits

Written By: Rick Warren

“Practice these things. Devote your life to them so that everyone can see your progress” (1 Timothy 4:15 GWT).

While you were given a brand new nature at the moment of conversion, you still have old habits, patterns, and practices that need to be removed and replaced.

We are afraid to humbly face the truth about ourselves. I have already pointed out that the truth will set us free but it often makes us miserable first.

The fear of what we might discover if we honestly faced our character defects keeps us living in the prison of denial. Yet, we often build our identities around our defects. We say, “It’s just like me to be” and “It’s just the way I am.” The unconscious worry is that if I let go of my habit, my hurt, or my hang-up, who will I be? This fear can definitely slow down your growth.

Only as God is allowed to shine the light of his truth on our faults, failures, and hang-ups can we begin to work on them. This is why you cannot grow without a humble, teachable attitude.

Godly habits take time to develop. Remember that your character is the sum total of your habits. You can’t claim to be kind unless you are habitually kind—you show kindness without even thinking about it. You can’t claim to have integrity unless it is your habit to always be honest. A husband who is faithful to his wife most of the time is not faithful at all!

Your habits define your character. There is only one way to develop the habits of Christlike character: You must practice them—and that takes time! There are no instant habits. Paul urged Timothy, “Practice these things. Devote your life to them so that everyone can see your progress” (1 Timothy 4:15 GWT).

If you practice something over time, you get good at it. Repetition is the mother of character and skill. These character-building habits are often called “spiritual disciplines,” and they include such things as meditation, prayer, fasting, Bible study, simplicity, stewardship, solitude, submission, service, and evangelism.

You can learn more about how to expand your faith by reading The Purpose Driven Life.

Romance Him…

God is so sick of saints coming to Him trying to get a quickie and never romancing Him for Who he is – going to church screaming, shouting and hollering, but hadn’t been intimate with God all week long! Stop trying to treat God like a sugar daddy and start romancing Him with worship and praise on a regular basis: ‘I’m yours Lord…everything I’ve got…everything I’m not!’

The God we serve, which is the God of love, demands and requires of us foreplay before He gives us what we need. In the book of Ruth, the mother-in-law tells Ruth, ‘You have to wash.’ John 15:3 reminds us, Now ye are clean through the word which I have spoken unto you. When you sit in the Gospel of Jesus Christ, you are taking a shower. When you hear the unadulterated Word of God, then the dirt and grime that you’ve accumulated all week long begins to wash off of you and then God can provide you what you need.

Ask God to ‘create in you a clean heart and renew a right spirit.’ Stand in the word. Then wait upon the Lord to renew your strength.

Every Saint Has a Past, Every Sinner Has A Future!

Best Friends

What do you consider a friend to be? How many true friends do you have?

According to a friend is:
1. a person attached to another by feelings of affection or personal regard.
2. a person who gives assistance; patron; supporter: friends of the Boston Symphony.
3. a person who is on good terms with another; a person who is not hostile: Who goes there? Friend or foe?

Friends are there for you in times of need or a crisis and you trust that your friend will never cause you harm. One problem that may occur in friendships is when one person is not available when the other needs them. Another is when true honesty is not accepted or given from one or the other. Then feelings change and you no longer want to consider this person a friend.

This is why as much as we value our Earthly friends we need to realize our TRUE friend is Jesus. He is the best friend we will ever have. He has accepted us as we are and laid down His life for us.

There is no greater love than to lay down one’s life for one’s friends. You are my friends if you do what I command. I no longer call you slaves, because a master doesn’t confide in his slaves. Now you are my friends, since I have told you everything the Father told me.
(John 15:13-15, NLT)

He hears us at all times and He listens and represents us before God.
Who then will condemn us? No one—for Christ Jesus died for us and was raised to life for us, and he is sitting in the place of honor at God’s right hand, pleading for us. (Romans 8:34, NLT)

Our Earthly friends and family may ignore us or hurt our feelings but Jesus never will. He will always give us wise advice because He understands us. During His time on Earth He encountered the same hardships and challenges we did. He had few material possessions, no place of his own to live, constant demands on Him to help people, He was misunderstood and He was crucified for His actions and beliefs. Because of His understanding He sent us His Holy Spirit to guide us into truth. If we meditate on scripture we will receive the insight, direction and encouragement to persevere.

Having a relationship with Jesus Christ and His Father will satisfy like no other. Try Him and see!

Wounds from a sincere friend are better than many kisses from an enemy. (Proverbs 27:6, NLT) Don’t you realize that friendship with the world makes you an enemy of God? I say it again: If you want to be a friend of the world, you make yourself an enemy of God. (James 4:4, NLT)

Fear Not!!!

Do you know that Satan can do nothing to us unless we give him access. We give Satan access to us through our fears and if we don’t overcome our fears they can rearrange and change things in our lives, just like faith can. Satan is always looking to inflict fear in us. We have to make the decision to not tolerate fear.

There are different froms of fear such as phobias, worry, doubt, insecurity, etc. The way we overcome them is by keeping our thinking in line with God’s Word. When fear knocks let faith answer. God has given us the spirit of power, love, and a sound mind and where there is love, fear cannot freely operate.

No weapon formed against you shall prosper,And every tongue which rises against you in judgment
You shall condemn. This is the heritage of the servants of the LORD, And their righteousness is from Me,” Says the LORD. (Isaiah 54:17, NKJV)

If you are righteous (acting in an upright, moral way; and have no fear then you have authority to speak against foul words spoken on your life (weapons) and condemn them. Learn God’s Word, trust it and believe it.

Fear not, for I am with you; Be not dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you, Yes, I will help you, I will uphold you with My righteous right hand.’ (Isaiah 41:10, NKJV)

If you have faith in His Words then this scripture should give you confidence in your trials that you will prevail because God is telling you He will harden you so that the trials will not stop you. They will not pierce you because God has put His Armour on you.

No foul words against you, no bad relationship, being alone, disease, bills, life here on Earth; none of it will scare you because you KNOW God is on your side. He’s cloaked you in His Armour.
And we have known and believed the love that God has for us. God is love, and he who abides in love abides in God, and God in him. (1 John 4:16, NKJV)

This is the key to overcoming if evil creeps it’s way in.

There is no fear in love; but perfect love casts out fear, because fear involves torment. But he who fears has not been made perfect in love. (1 John 4:18, NKJV)

If fear exist then love is in question. According to this verse there is no feat in His love. If you truly love Him then you know no fear because you KNOW He is with you because you KNOW He loves you. When you know He loves you then you will believe His Word. There lies your power to prevail over any weapons that may be formed against you and you will FEAR NOT!!!

This is it! What if it’s too late? You had so many opportunities to say it. You had so many chances to do it. So many years, months, weeks and days….but you kept putting it off. You kept waiting until you ‘felt like it.’ Now it could be too late. This could be your last day. No one knows their last moment or their last breath. You could have told her that you loved her. You should have told him that you were sorry. You could have told them that you appreciated them. You should have told her that you forgave her. What about telling him that you were proud of him? This could be it. Today could be the last day; the last opportunity and the last chance. This is it!

Day after day you thought about it. You considered it, but you thought you had plenty of time. After all, you weren’t going anywhere and they aren’t going anywhere…right? You kept putting it off, because of your pride. You kept procrastinating because they didn’t say they were sorry to you first. You were going to help them, but you didn’t have time. You were going to check on him, but you were too busy. You always said that you would do it tomorrow. Tomorrow kept coming; tomorrow kept going, and still you find that you forgot; you were distracted…always an excuse, always a reason. This could be it. Today could be the last day; the last opportunity and the last chance. This is it!

Don’t put it off any longer. Live today as though it were your last. Tell people you forgive them; let others know you appreciate them;

show someone that you love them; check on the person you have been neglecting; reach out to that person who is lonely; witness to that lost co-worker… Come on, stop procrastinating. This could be it. Today could be the last day; the last opportunity and the last chance. This is it!

“Yet you do not know what your life will be like tomorrow. You are just a vapor that appears for a little wile and then vanishes away.” James 4:14 NAS

When you stand before the Lord, what would be your reason; what would be your excuse for not loving others as you should, everyday, all day.
The two greatest commands are all about love.

Love somebody today who doesn’t love you; doesn’t care about you; won’t repay you, can’t repay you and doesn’t want to repay you…then you will be treating them the way God treated you…
